What lifts you up when you are feeling down in your spirit? Maybe you like to take a leisurely walk or do some physical activity. Perhaps a good book or favorite television show helps you to mentally escape.

Now, think about the moments, activities, and people that bring you the most joy. It could be an art project or working out at the gym. Maybe your spouse or your children lift your spirits. Do you ever feel so happy that you want to burst out into song?

Whether we find ourselves in situations of joy or sorrow, peace or anxiety, we can all find comfort in God’s Word. The prophet, Zephaniah, talks about God rejoicing over us with song:

It is hard for us to fathom that God rejoices over us with singing. Especially in times of worry or stress, God might seem farther away. In these moments, we may be tempted to doubt our worth. We can praise God that, although He is set apart from us in His holiness and majesty, He is also closer to us than the air that we breathe.

Our Creator rejoices in us, His masterpiece. He takes delight in knowing us! Because of who He is and how He made us in His image, He declares us to be worthy. Not because of acts of our own righteousness, but because of His goodness.

Zephaniah talks about our God who is present with us. He delivers joy that brings us strength. We are offered a promise of restoration after judgment.

God is a Warrior Who gives victory. As He sings over us, He comforts and renews us. He offers us such tremendous mercy. He extends to us a call to repentance.

Let us rejoice over our Lord with singing as well! Let us strive to reflect His character and advance His kingdom, for His glory. May you find encouragement today in knowing that God delights in you!
