Heart of Worship

The seasons are changing. My yard is continually filled with leaves from the sycamore and elm trees. We have less hours of daylight, and the temperatures are getting cooler. In just a few weeks, winter will have officially arrived.

With each new season comes fresh opportunities to praise the Lord. All of creation is a testimony to our Creator. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

David continues his praise for the Lord as he acknowledges the life-giving power of God’s Word:

The law of the Lord is perfect,
    refreshing the soul…
The precepts of the Lord are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.
They are more precious than gold,
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
    than honey from the honeycomb.
Psalm 19:7-8, 10

God’s Word offers refreshment for our very souls. Like a plant that awakens from winter with its vibrant signs of life in the spring, God’s Word leaves us revived and satisfied at our core.

Does God’s Word give joy to your heart? Is His Word more precious to you than anything else on earth? I must confess that I often do not delight in God’s Word at this level. I pray that these words that David concludes with would permeate our lives:

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

Love in Christ,
Adam
