Sanctity of Life

Dignity. Significance. Being worthy.

We long to know that life has meaning. All of us want to know that we matter. We suffer when we do not realize our importance in this world.

The living God of the universe helps us begin to grasp our significance. A dignity which has nothing to do with what others think of us. A worthiness that is not based on how we esteem ourselves.

January 22 is designated as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. This day is designated as a day to honor the sacredness of human life. We live in a culture of death and must push against cultural currents when we celebrate life.

When we say that we are pro-life, we are saying more than the truth that we are pro-birth. Pro-life means that we value life from conception to natural death.

Our dignity comes from the Lord Himself. He stamped His image on us.

God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:27

When you think thoughts, you are reflecting God’s image. When you use language to communicate, you reflect our Lord. When you create, you exhibit a wondrous side of our Savior. When you give your loyalty to another human as friend or spouse, you relate to them because you are an image-bearer of the only God.

Our significance arises out of the Lord’s work on us. We are told that He handcrafted us in the womb (Psalm 139:13-17). He gave you a certain uniqueness that no one else possesses.

Personality, temperament, strength, intellect…are just some of the areas in which Jesus designed us. His design gives us dignity. His design gives us the privilege and opportunity to bring Him glory.

May you praise Him for the sacredness of your life. May you value all life in greater ways. May you celebrate the One in Whom we find our significance.

Love and blessings,
Dave
