I know everybody is saying it, but we are living in really strange times. The last year and a half has been crazy and in many ways unbelievable. Sometimes it feels like the world has changed more in the last 18 months than in the whole rest of my life, and not for the better. Many of us have already started referencing recent history with BC and AC (before and after COVID).
Just looking around at social media or watching the news, things can seem awfully dismal. As the looming shadows of pessimism begin to creep over me, I am reminded of a song I love by Switchfoot: “The Shadow Proves the Sunshine.”
Now, to be fair, I’m not completely sure what exactly this song is about…but, when I listen to it I’m reminded of a few things: First, I only notice the shadow when I’m looking away from the light. Second, I’ve never seen a shadow comparable to the sun. And lastly, when I am centered under the sun high above me, the shadow is swallowed up in light.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer. (Romans 12:12)
May the Lord give us grace to keep our eyes focused the Son.
God bless,
chris
