Thankfulness is the prevailing attitude of the follower of Jesus.
Paul states it plainly:
Whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
(Colossians 3:17)
Prayer is a beautiful time of communion with our Lord Jesus. You have His personal attention all the time but, in prayer, you are letting Him hear what is important to you.
Include thankfulness in your prayer. Express your heart in any way you choose to reveal your gratitude. Perhaps the Lord has answered previous prayers. Perhaps He brought to mind a dear friend and all that they have done for you. Perhaps you recall the joy of your salvation.
Regardless of what you choose to verbalize, give thanks to Jesus. Thankfulness humbles us with reflection on the giver of all good gifts. Gratitude recognizes God at work and gives us hope for the future.
You could spend a lifetime simply thanking God. I encourage you to start by choosing to include a form of thanks in each prayer you pray.
For His glory,
Dave
