I’d like to encourage you to take a moment to think about a teacher who has meant a great deal to you. Perhaps it is someone who taught you in a school or Sunday school classroom. It could possibly even be a parent or other relative.
I had a drama teacher in high school whom I loved dearly named Mrs. Fields (she did not sell cookies). She also served in the youth group and was a family friend. It made a tremendous difference to me that she knew me on a personal level. Another favorite teacher of mine is from my time in seminary. Her name is Dr. Karen Kennemur. She taught most of my children’s ministry classes. Through experiential learning, we gained practical experience. She helped make learning fun.
What was most meaningful to you about the individual you chose? It is likely that it is someone who intentionally invested in you. Teachers contribute a great deal of time and resources in order to help us learn. The best teachers challenge and encourage us. They keep us accountable. They help us succeed and support us when we fail.
In life, we never stop learning. Even as adults, we continue to encounter situations that stretch us. The Lord is our best and closest teacher. He guides and comforts us.
Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning;
For I trust in You;
Teach me the way in which I should walk;
For to You I lift up my soul.
Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
For the sake of Your name, O Lord, revive me.
In Your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.
Psalm 143:8, 10-11
If we are willing to listen, we will hear God gently guiding us. He shows us how we can live lives that are pleasing to Him. In His love, He protects and directs us. As we trust in Him, we are yielded to His Spirit.
God is not a distant teacher. Even though we may not physically see Him with our eyes, we can have an intimate relationship with Him. God teaches us primarily through His Word. The Bible is where we can learn ultimate Truth.
God uses individuals in our lives to teach us His Word. Within the context of the local church, we are able to equip one another from God’s Word. I am thankful for special teachers here on earth. I am exceedingly grateful for the Teacher we have in our Heavenly Father.
Love in Christ,
Adam
