The Heartache of Tragedy

The shock and pain of tragedy spreads quickly. Like lightning shooting through the sky, the heartache of Tuesday’s catastrophe has spread all over the world into each of our lives.

Within hours, people all over the globe are responding to the shooting in Uvalde. The array of emotions and responses are staggering. Every news site. Every social media platform. They are all full of questions, opinions, claims, demands, agendas, and perhaps most of all, broken hearts.

For me personally, it is paralyzing. All I can think about are the near 21 homes who have one less loved one at bedtime. Beds that will no longer be disheveled with tossing and turning. Seats at the dinner table that will now be left unoccupied. Shoes that will no longer run and play and get dirty. Little toothbrushes that are no longer needed.

It’s heartbreaking.

Hear my prayer, O Lord,
And let my cry come to You.
Do not hide Your face from me in the day of trouble;
Turn your ear to me.
In the day that I call, answer me quickly.
~ Psalm 102:1-2

Would you join me in praying for those families? Who better to approach in the midst of tragedy than the One who turns brokenness into peace, who takes our messes and turns them into something beautiful. The One who loves all the little children.

Grace to you,
chris
