Our Burden Bearer

Sometimes I want to be more efficient and just get it done quickly. So I go ahead and lift more weight than I should. Sometimes I am arrogant and think, “I got this.” Sometimes I don’t want to wait until someone is available.

So I occasionally go ahead and move heavy objects. Work on projects that require two people. Or carry objects too far without a furniture dolly.

And I end up with lower back pain. Or strained hamstrings. Or my hands cramp up.

I need to be more mindful of when I need a burden-bearer. Someone to help me lift an object or point out an easier way to do it. I once saw my father-in-law (the mechanical engineer) hoist an engine out of a boat with a ski line…and seven pulleys!

Prayer helps us take full advantage of our Burden Bearer. His wisdom is generous. His strength is infinite. His love is steadfast. I like how the Psalmist David puts it…

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. (Psalm 68:19)

Praying takes discipline, humility, and patience. Failing to go to our Lord in prayer can lead to a smaller view of God, strained relationships with others, or painful results in our lives. Let Him bear your burdens.

Intercessory prayer allows us to share in the burden for others. May we learn to lean on our Burden Bearer more readily and experience His life more joyfully!

Love,
Dave
