A POOR LADY GIVES HER PENNIES TO JESUS Mark 12:41-44
Children can grow up to be cheerful givers.
All children can learn that giving is God’s way. It takes practice and demonstration.
Help your children practice giving by encouraging them to focus on the birthday friend rather than themselves when shopping for a gift. When a friend is coming to visit, help your children think of something to let him take home when he leaves. Help them practice by encouraging them to keep their eyes open for the needs of others. They are very good at this activity…much more observant than we think…and can come up with very creative ways to help people. Follow through in some way with their ideas and allow them to be a part of it.
Demonstrate to your children the art of giving by giving in front of them. Let them put the offering in the plate at church. Let them help you load and unload the things for the resale shop. Let them help you prepare a meal and deliver it for the meal ministry. Involve them in your giving activities and they will see that this is what they want to do also. It becomes your family’s way of living. It becomes their way of living.
“God loves a cheerful giver.” I Corinthians 9:7
Dear God, help me to be a cheerful giver. Amen.
