Everyone likes to win, right? When I was an upper elementary student, I participated in a contest called, “The Silliest Kid in America.” While I did not get first place, I was one of the runners up. I felt like I had won because I received a $100 shopping spree from the mall! I was so excited to be able to pick out what I wanted to purchase. I chose a black and red pair of rollerblade skates. I used those rollerblades until they would roll no more! Whether it is in a sporting event, a board game, a competition at school, or a promotion at work, it is exciting to be a part of a winning team.
In Psalm 20, David wrote a song of blessing upon the one who hears or reads it. “May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you” (Psalm 20:1). “May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed” (Psalm 20:4).I want to be a recipient of this kind of success:
Now this I know:
The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:6-7
In Christ, we have victory. God is faithful to hear us and answer our prayers. I love David’s proclamation … “[B]ut we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” God is powerful, and triumph comes directly from Him. In Jesus and through His blood, we have victory over sin. We have victory over Satan and other evil forces. We have victory over anxiety, depression, fear, worry, feelings of worthlessness or defeat, and all other negativity. Let us boldly proclaim together that we have “Victory in Jesus!”
Love in Christ,
Adam
