The arctic blast that we received has made this week quite eventful! With the subfreezing temperatures, along with flurries and freezing rain, winter has certainly made itself known. Houses and trees were capped with ice. I saw that one family even made tiny snow people out of snowballs!
I grew up going to visit my grandparents each winter in the Texas panhandle. Many years when we would take this trip, my grandparents would get two or three inches of snow. This was great for making snowballs, snowmen, and snow angels. I remember one winter in particular in which we built massive snow forts. My brother and cousins and I divided up into two separate teams and had snowball fights. The forts were ironclad sanctuaries of protection from being pummeled by snowballs.
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength;
Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For You have been my stronghold
And a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.
Psalm 59:16-17
Praise God that He is our fortress. He protects us from threats that are significantly more dangerous than stray snowballs soaring through the air or subfreezing temperatures. He wages war on our behalf against our enemies, against Satan, and all powers of darkness. While we may not know what trials we will face as we live for God, we can know that He is our safe place.
David exhibits the right response in light of God’s protection: he worships. David praises God for His strength and lovingkindness. May this be the posture of our hearts when we encounter hardship. God is our stronghold. May you find refuge and strength in Him today.
Love In Christ,
Adam
