You never know what to expect with Texas weather! Last week the temperature got up to the eighties and this week we are supposed to get below freezing! People have jokingly warned me that I am not prepared for the hot, humid summers (or were they serious!?). Signs of the upcoming arrival of spring are already showing. We are getting more rain, birds are migrating, things are looking a little greener, and the redbud trees are in full bloom. Longer hours of daylight, little league, and new birth are on the horizon. I am looking forward to getting outside, planting, and seeing what God grows. I love the new growth that comes in spring.
The arrival of spring also brings with it a most important reminder: new life comes from Christ! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” Thankfully, we do not have to wait for a particular season to experience this freedom. We can walk daily in the grace, mercy, and new life found in Jesus.
1 Peter 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” We don’t need to live the way that we lived before we knew Christ. We have a thriving hope because of Jesus’ death and resurrection! As believers who are seeking after Christ, we are continually being made more in His likeness. While many of us often do not like the idea of change, this is a wonderfully miraculous transformation that God brings about. When we do not abide in Him, it is easy to revert to our old way of thinking; to stray from walking in this new life. I want to encourage you today to embrace the freedom and joy that new life in Christ brings.
In Him,
Adam
