Do Not Fear

Fears and memories can have a strong and eerie connection. Because of the memories that can be associated with these fears, we might avoid doing certain activities altogether. A broken bone during an activity might make one leery of engaging in that sport or pastime. Getting sick after eating a certain food might cause fear and avoidance of eating that certain food. A misspelled word during a spelling bee might mean that you would avoid public speaking altogether.

Sometimes the fears are painful and deep-seated. Loss of a loved one or other forms of trauma can cause certain fears to be very present and debilitating. On the other hand, there is certainly merit to having a healthy fear of some things. It is wise be fearful of burning yourself on a hot stove. There is wisdom in taking certain precautions to limit potential harm.

Although our fears can be real and legitimate, scripture is teeming with numerous examples that assuage our anxieties.

‘Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Isaiah 41:10

We do not need to give in to the fears of life. In fact, we are commanded not to fear. In our own strength, this can seem near impossible. However, God is on our side, and He wants us to be successful in the things He commands us to do.

God is with us as we journey through life. We do not need to wander aimlessly. We shouldn’t let anxieties overcome us. God is our source of strength. He is ready, willing, and able to be our help. His right hand upholds us. I hope you will give your fears to God and be strengthened by His peace.

Love in Christ,
Adam
