As believers, we are equipped and guided directly by God Himself. He is constantly at work all around us. He calls us to serve Him and others. He calls us to tell others about Him. God sufficiently gives what we need to follow His direction and leading.
There are many ways that God leads us to do His will. His guidance might look like a gentle nudge to share a meal with someone in need. Maybe it is through prompting to pray with someone. God guides us through His Word.
We found that God equipped us for exactly what we needed on our recent mission trip to Honduras. Whether it was through giving us the stamina we needed on long days, providing the words to say when we passed out food, or knowing when to offer a hug to a child or teacher, God was our source of strength.
David wrote a “Song of Deliverance” in 2 Samuel 22 after the Lord set him free from his enemies, including Saul. David discovered that God equipped him with exactly what he needed at just the right time.
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge;
My savior, You save me from violence.
“I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.
2 Samuel 22:3-4
David found a place of safety in the Lord. He acknowledged that God is worthy to be praised. The posture of his heart amidst deliverance was to worship. We can praise God as well for his divine provision. God is referred to as David’s “support” (verse 17). God is our helper and provider. As our Creator, He knows exactly what we need and in which moment. He rescues us and even delights in us (verse 20).
As our “Lamp,” God guides our way through the darkness (verse 29). Because God is blameless in all He does, we can trust that His provision will be sufficient. He steadies our feet (verse 34). He gives us the strength that we need (verse 40). He’s given spiritual gifts to every believer to be used within the body. While we may not know exactly how God will lead us to serve, we can have confidence that He will equip us with what we need to follow in obedience.
Love in Christ,
Adam
