When it comes to choosing your clothing for the day, are you a “night before” person or a “morning of” person?
Now that may seem like a crazy question but stick with me. I do want to be clear. There is no “best way” to make your sartorial choices. For some people, it comes down to amount of time, pressure of decision-making, or simply personality.
Night-before people often attempt to cut down on stressful mornings with one less decision to make and possibly one less surprise (“oh, that shirt I am putting on has a wrinkle and a stain!”). That could leave more time for breakfast, tending to the kids, or, best of all, a longer shower.
Morning-of people crave the spontaneity of choice and the fun of not knowing what they will choose until the time is upon them. They figure they will have a more precise handle on what the weather will actually do that day. And their clothing will be less uniformed (“how can I be legendary if I plan to wear the same boring stuff every day?”).
Regardless of when you choose your clothing, your clothing matters each day. By a person’s clothing, we can often determine a number of factors regarding that person. There are no hard and fast rules, but clothing often reveals clues regarding a person’s age or style or heritage. What we put on reveals more about us than when we choose to put it on.
All believers in Jesus Christ have been given a complete wardrobe by our Lord. We do not have to make a relaxed decision at night or a spontaneous decision in the morning. Jesus has created our line of clothing and tailored it to fit our personality. This list contains clothing that never goes out of style. We are given specific instructions to clothe ourselves in this manner.
Colossians 3:12-14 NLT
These articles of clothing form our identity. When we clothe ourselves in this manner, we reveal the character of Christ to this world. Our fit is always in fashion when it comes from Jesus. As His representatives, we want to exude His love, grace, and gospel.
Whether you are a night-before person or a morning-of person, clothe yourself with Christ. Ask Him to let you flourish as His representative.
As you pray through the Prayer List, would you pray for the members of our church family to clothe themselves with Christ?
Love and blessings,
Dave
